The Chicago White Sox announced Monday that pitcher Danny Farquhar is "progressing well following a successful surgery." He also has use of his extremities and is responding to questions following his brain hemorrhage suffered during last Friday's game.

The team also noted the player is in "critical, but neurologically stable condition."

Farquhar was rushed to the hospital after collapsing in the middle of a game, where it was discovered he had had a ruptured aneurysm that caused a hemorrhage.

While he remains at Rush University Medical Center, the latest update is a positive one after a scary prognosis from team officials over the weekend.

"He's a fighter, and he's in the fight of his life right now," White Sox vice president Ken Williams said of Farquhar, per Bob Nightengale of USA Today. "They had to do another surgery, cracking his skull open, and putting a clamp on it. My God.

"This certainly shows the fragility of life and how we take every day for granted. And it can change in a heartbeat. Literally."

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports noted that doctors are now "cautiously optimistic," although he will remain in the hospital for at least a few weeks.

The 31-year-old was in the midst of his seventh season in the majors, second with the White Sox after joining the team as a free agent last July.
